Recently picked up a 74 750four on a ridged costum frame. The seller said big bore kit installed and it had a high performance cam. The stock carbs had been removed and 2 Makuni carbs are on it, going 2 into 1. I also got the stock carbs.
The bike won’t run right (go figure). Adjusted, then rebuilt, then changed jets, then rebuilt and installed stock carbs. HELP!! No one who fixes this type thing will touch it.

Ill move this thread to the correct forum. Cant take anything for granted, go through all the basics. Not running right can mean many different things to different people so you will have to be more specific. Check compression, valve clearances, timing chain tension, ignition timing, dwell, point condition. spark plug condition, etc. If compression isnt good it will never run right. Depending on the size of the cam and the size of the engine will affect how it runs. It is more then likely just a 836cc kit but cam size can be all over the place. It will honestly probably run and perform better if you had a good set of stock carbs. i am not a fan of the 2 carb setups.. First make sure the engine is sound then we can look at other stuff.

What dirtdigger said. Figuring out what's wrong often requires determining what it's NOT.

Also, owning a custom build requires the intestinal fortitude to "figure it out" that often includes some reverse engineering. I'm not surprised no one will work on it. I remember many years ago having a Honda dealer tell me they wouldn't work on anything over ten years old, even if it was still stock. Same thing applies to custom cars too. It never ceases to amaze me what people will pay for "custom" builds that most often don't include any kind of build sheet or parts list. The Honda SOHC motors are pretty simple design and quite robust so it shouldn't be too tough to get it running well. Just work through the list eliminating any other potential issues.
