    Bag of bolts

Hi. Please help. I have a 1980 CB750 Custom that runs beautifully and smoothly. But when it idles below 900 rpm, the motor sounds like a bag of bolts. If I set the idle to 1300 rpm the sounds go away. I was told by an 'old school' mechanic that this is pretty normal. Any thoughts please.

    Engine Oil

Hi All. You know... I joined this group some time ago when I acquired a CB750, believing we could share stories and experiences along the way. I never for one second, thought that I'd be told to 'to get a manual'. Quite disappointing.

    Engine Oil

I totally agree re the manual, and do actually have. My query is regarding lubricants.... that have progressed massively since 1980, when the manual was written.

Thanks very much. Please, how do I adjust the clutch at the clutch cover. I can also feel when changing gears, that the clutch is not engaging fully. Thank you.

Think I'm rather going to check clutch adjustment. Anyone know the correct procedure for using the adjuster on the clutch cover? Please.

    Engine Oil

The mechanic said must use 10w40 or 20w50... for petrol engine.

    Engine Oil

Thanks. That is exactly what I used. 15w40 diesel engine oil. (Leftovers from servicing my Fortuner). Actually just spoke to our local 'old bike' mechanic, and he said very strongly, that I should change it immediately!!. Back to square one. LOL...

    Engine Oil

Hi all. Looking for advice please. I'm a new owner of a 1980 CB750. I noticed that since servicing the bike, my clutch dosen't seem to work as it did before. Could always shift to neutral, but now have to first switch off the engine. I used 15w40 oil that I had. Was this a mistake? I have...

    Rear brake shoes

Thanks for the reply. I need to replace the brake shoes, but they are not easily available where I live. They can be re-lined by a brake shop. I'm just not sure what thickness to tell them to line them.

    Rear brake shoes

    Differences

Hi All. Thanks for all the help onthe group. I do have one thing that's bothering me. What is the difference, or differences, between a 1980 CB 750 K, and a 1980 CB750 Custom? The only thing I can see, is the shape of the indicators.

Yip.. As much as I didn't want to... I have accepted that. Thanks for the reply.

    Carb overflow

Thanks I'll check. But could that cause fuel to run out the back of the carbs. Surely it would just drain straight through? Thanks for the help.
  26. G

    Carb overflow

Sorry all. Addendum to my previous post. The carbs start flowing before I crank the engine. Please any help would be greatly appreciated.

    Carb overflow

Hi all, please help. I took delivery today of a 1980 CB750 Custom. The bike looks good, but I have one big problem. I open the fuel valve on the tank and everything is fine. As soon as I start cranking, the fuel literally pours out the back of all four carbs. I managed to remove all the bowls...

Thanks. Yes definitely would like to 'customize' my cluster to include oil, temp and amps. Somehow with keeping the bike original. Probably would make it easily reversible. Any suggestions?
