Suddenly in need of a fuel tank for my '79 Anniversary model. I believe a tank off of a K model between 79 and 83 will fit. Tank has the locking strap over the filler cap and the petcock that mounts in a round bung. I don't care about the paint or minor dings because it will get painted back...
That paragraph in the book that says not to separate the carbs saved me $200 back in the day. I went to look at a 750L that someone had for sale for $350 ('93 prices). The carbs were spread all over the guy's workbench just like the parts breakdown picture in the book. Was able to use that...
Seems to me I remember that another member here had this same problem a few months back, so you might search past posts. As I recall he came up with a solution.
I also noticed that the company has an 800 number listed on the web page. Did you call them to ask the difference?
Just got my '79 CB750L out to go for a ride. Happened to remember this post as I wiped the dust off of her, so I took a look at the rear upper shock mounts. My upper shock mounts are also staggered like the OP's. My bike has never been molested, so that's apparently the way they came from the...
I don't know. I bought my bike from a shop in Albuquerque when I was in SoCal. Of course, I had planned on passing through Albuquerque on my way home to Arkansas, so the logistics worked out. I specifically wanted a '79 Anniversary Edition, and when I was looking this one was the best one...
Hard for me to judge the softness of the forks on my current '79 CB750L because I'm coming off of 24 years of riding big Harleys, but I remember when I got my first '79 CB750L (back in the ' 90's) that the forks seemed really soft compared to the '72 CB 750K I'd been riding up to that point. I...
I just looked at the factory manual for my '79 DOHC bike. According to the book there are punch marks on the sprockets that you line up and the cam is located to the sprocket by the position of the mounting bolts.
4 out of my 5 sons also ride motorcycles. Among them it's a mix of Yamaha, Kawasaki, Honda and even a BMW. After 2 seasons they're getting tired of riding with me because everywhere we stop somebody will remark about how nice my old Anniversary Edition looks while totally ignoring their bikes...
How is the beam pattern on that bulb? I've heard some less-than-stellar reviews of those LED bulb conversions. Bright, yes, but a lot of complaints about the beam patterns.
My '79 Anniversary edition has the black ComStar wheels, but I'm really liking the looks of the bare aluminum version. Good luck, just take it a bit at a time and don't get discouraged when you hit the inevitable roadblocks. Whatever you need is out there, it might just take a bit of searching...

Just out of curiosity, has anyone tried an anaerobic sealer on the case halves? I was a GM mechanic for over 20 years and GM had an anaerobic sealer that was used on stuff like transfer cases, front differentials and manual transmissions. It was similar to this and is designed to cure in the...
I used to own a hot rod and restoration shop in Arkansas before I retired. Chroming is a big hassle anymore because of the toxic chemicals the process uses. The place we used to send our stuff is in Ogden, Utah and is called Ogden Chrome. They do a very good job, but they are very proud of...
I had an old Harley Shovelhead that I took apart "just to paint the tins and change the swing arm bushings". Once I got into it, it took so long that I ended up buying another bike so I'd have something to ride. After that the project turned into a nut and bolt restoration which took a total...
You can't really judge the size of the tires until they're mounted. Even my slightly oversized tires looked small when they were banded like that for shipping.
As far as a supplier for stock looking tires, I have no idea. Even when I had my first 750 back in the 90's I ran oversized tires on...
On my '79 Anniversary edition I have the Comstar wheels instead of spokes. I'm running a 100/90-19 on the front and a 130/90 18 on the rear. No clearance issues, but the speedo reads a couple of mph slow.
In '16 at ages 65 and 62 my wife and I sold everything, including a collection of old Harleys and moved into our motor home. In '20 at age 65 my wife passed away. Last year at age 71 I couldn't stand to be without a bike anymore. I bought a '79 CB750Ltd in remarkable shape with only 20K on...
Gee, thanks. That brought back a memory from like 1976 that I could have done without. My best buddy is still married to her sister, so looks like he got the better end of the deal.
I believe that's correct. My '71 SOHC had the on/off switch but neither of my '79 DOHC's did/do. I think that the '71 also had a push-to-cancel turn signal switch also, but I've killed a lot of brain cells since I had that bike.
