    Can't Lock Front Brakes

I have the CB750F (Supersport), which came with dual rotors/calipers from the factory. I’d like to not replace the master cylinder, because that will take away from the ‘70s looks of the bike, but if that’s the answer, that’s the answer I guess.

    Can't Lock Front Brakes

Hi everyone, I recently got a newer sport bike, and it made me realize how truly awful my front brake is on my '78 CB750F. Only squeezing with my index and middle finger, I can barely build any brake pressure. Using all four fingers, I can stop, but I can't lock the front brake. And since I can...

Desperate for Help!! — 1978 CB750F keeps dying

Update: I got the carbs rebuilt. I’ve been riding around for a couple months now without issue, so I think it’s safe to say the carbs were the problem.

Desperate for Help!! — 1978 CB750F keeps dying

I think we’ve gotten a little off topic. I was never questioning how to time the bike. I was simply stating that when the bike started to stutter and die, the timing light became erratic on cylinders 1 and 4. Don’t know if it means anything. I will rebuild the carbs and report back.

Desperate for Help!! — 1978 CB750F keeps dying

This is from the service manual for my bike. Perhaps yours is different?

Desperate for Help!! — 1978 CB750F keeps dying

Then why are there timing marks for cylinders 2 & 3?

Desperate for Help!! — 1978 CB750F keeps dying

Thanks for the link @madmtnmotors! I ended up resorting to the easiest (laziest) solution, which was to put a few drops of blue threadlock on the jet before tapping it back in. I waited at least 24 hours before starting the bike, and after taking it for a long ride today, the jet stayed in. If...

Desperate for Help!! — 1978 CB750F keeps dying

The gas cap is definitely not the problem because I've ridden without it and the bike still dies. My petcock broke awhile back, and since Honda doesn't make them anymore, I got one of these. Here it is inside the tank: Fuel couldn't flow more quickly out of it, so I don't think it is the issue...

Desperate for Help!! — 1978 CB750F keeps dying

Yes, there is an inline fuel filter. The filter itself has a 90º bend, but there aren't any sharp bends in the hose. He's been the head mechanic at a Honda motorcycle dealer for decades and owns a CB750 himself. He's very knowledgable, but then again, even the best mechanics are wrong...

Desperate for Help!! — 1978 CB750F keeps dying

And before anyone suggests the gas cap not venting, I've tried riding without a gas cap and the bike still dies.

Desperate for Help!! — 1978 CB750F keeps dying

I'm at the end of my rope with this bike.... I've been chasing this problem for a year, and in that time I've spent countless hours reading through forum posts, replacing parts, and taking it to different mechanics, all to no avail. Here's the issue: My bike starts up and runs fine, but on a...
