For Sale - Parting out Entire 81 CB750

ok, i have HAD IT. i got this thing thumping with starting fluid but it won't stay running despite my best efforts. i've had two old yammys and got them running very strong but now have two old hondas and both are pissing me right off. so, in the immortal words of Roberto Duran, "no mas, no...

Running BUT not sucking gas from carbs

well yes, i could put it back together without the bowls but what i decided to do is to add gas to the carbs on my bench and then unscrew the drains and measure how much gas comes from each bowl. i had to stop because i ran out of light. will resume in the morning. this test will also...

Running BUT not sucking gas from carbs

ok, i cleaned the carbs and i am able to get it running on starting fluid so i thought the hardest part was behind me. it will run but only on starting fluid even though i installed and filed the tank and gas is flowing to the carbs. i'm figuring that even if there is a vacuum leak, it...

i used a clear i got from Genteel Coatings called "Opulence" and added a bunch of gold pearl i got on ebay. i then added just a tad of xirallic black and blasted away.

    tank is like glass

i repainted this thing yesterday because i wasn't satisfied with it. it has a Xirallic black undercoat with a clear/zirallic black, gold pearl mix top coat. it came out LIKE WET GLASS.

    carb filler hose

i wanted to paint the tank before i filled it with gas and it wasn't very hard. also, i decided to paint the tank after i knew that the bike would run.

    carb filler hose

ok, thanks i'll check out those links.... i've cleaned and rejetted a lot of old 4cyl bike carbs over the years. i'm hoping that installing the tank and fuel line will keep the bike running at least long enough to give it some rpm's. the backfire is from squirting starting fluid in the open...

    carb filler hose

ok, thanks..... part of the problem is that i'm testing without an air filter so they will need even more gas to get perking. i'm going to install the tank later today and see if i can get this creature to keep running. i'm also restoring a brunswick Gold Crown III , a Honda CM450 and a...

    carb filler hose

is the carb filler hose on the left side of the carbs and that thinner hose on the middle an overflow? i got the pos thumping but it dies so it's not getting gas despite the fact that i filled up the floats. unfortunately the choke is a real choke and not an enricher......so i'm not sure why...

    Non-noisy 4-1 exhaust system?

no, i recently sold my Seca750 and it sounded really nice. so nice in fact a harley guy commented to me how good it sounded and it ran great. i blew off a new big-inch Superglide with it. you just have to know how to properly rejet the carbs.

    Non-noisy 4-1 exhaust system?

noisy is good. my 750 has 4into1 headers with baffles which i'm going to try to remove.
  12. MotersickleBum

What is the best header paint?

i bought some flat-black high-heat paint at walmart but next time i'm going to get gloss.

    Fire in the hole!

OK, today i cleaned the carbs on my 81 CB750 that's been sitting for over a decade. i also squirted oil on the cams before trying to get it running. i have not yet reinstalled the gas tank. i just added fuel to the float bowls with a hose and funnel then squired some starting fluid in...

    Clutch rattle

be careful, i blew-up a clutch-pack on a 750 Seca that was rattling. i ignored it and blasted through 2nd gear and BLAM! i thought i destroyed the motor. i walked it back home about two miles and not only was the clutch basket totally destroyed by it put a hole in the outer cover...

Oil Cams Manually To Avoid Damage

i'm not worried about valve clearances because it only has 4007 miles on it. yeah, i remember STP. it was thick like honey.

Oil Cams Manually To Avoid Damage

OK, i got my "new" 81 750 to pop and run on starting fluid so now before i put gas in the carbs i was thinking about manually oiling the cams because it's been sitting for a decade. can i just pop off the valve cover?

What is the Stock Jet Size on an 81 CB750?

ok, i got fire in the hole so now i have to pull the carbs and clean then see if i can get it running well. but i'm going to go with pods and the bike already has a 4-1 header so i need to know what is the stock main jet size for my bike. someone may have already changed the jets but i won't...

    Bike dies on reserve

agreed with posts above. remove the petcock and fuel screen and clean. while you have it out, take the petcock apart and make sure that the gaskets are intact and passages are open.

    Weak Spark?

ok, before i tried to rewire i thought that i'd see if i can get it to fire with all four plugs and wires and i got it to perk until it ran out of either. that's fantastic..... now i can go through the carbs and put gas to them and see if i can keep it running. QUESTION: what is the stock...

    Weak Spark?

yes, i'd have to run a switch if i left it that way. thanks for the info. i'd do that test tomorrow.

    Weak Spark?

i could just run a 12v wire from the battery to the 12v coil wire as a test, right? which is the hot lead to the coils? there's a connector with three wires if i remember correctly.. thanks!

    Weak Spark?

OK, i now have spark on all four BUT it looks a bit weak. it archs about 1/4" . last night i tried to get it to pop with starting fluid but failed.

    Headlight Bucket Wiring

ok, thanks.... i jumped the switch yesterday but was wondering if the problem was further down in the wiring.... later today i'm going to look at the spark unit.
  25. MotersickleBum

    Headlight Bucket Wiring

yes, it has aftermarket signals but how the heck can they work with the wiring not hooked-up? but there are about five loose wires. do you know if any of them will effect a low/no spark situation? which ones go to the clutch lever switch? this could be my problem...

    Headlight Bucket Wiring

OK, i got spark but it's very weak so i checked the coils and they ohm-out good. i cleaned as many connections as possible. everything works, starter, lights, horn, signals et... the bike has 4007 miles on it. so i opened up my headlight bucket and found a bunch of wires with no place to...

    Craigslist 1981 CB750 for $250

that's why i jumped on it when i saw the ad. after i get it running, i'll paint it with some Xriallic black that i just bought and will likely do some other mods. i like the way they look stripped down.
