New Guy Here, Needing some help....

now that the accel rail is pumping and the low idle jets are clean have you set the air fuel mixture screws on the bottoms of the carbs? I believe mine are at 1 and a 1/2 turns out. have the carbs been synced yet?

Is #4 still leaking? You said clear tube shows number 4 is at just above 1/4 inch from top of bowl, does it stay that way over time ? If it stays at that level and still leaks it could be a hairline crack in bowl by the drain screw from overtightening.

New Guy Here, Needing some help....

I believe you want about 2 mm below top of bowls so you should be pretty darn close without seeing a picture. do you have the air box and filter on the bike? if so once your running spray a bit of carb cleaner on the boots to see if it revs up, if it does you have an air leak around the intake...

New Guy Here, Needing some help....

I would take them apart and soak each carb first. Make sure you don't lose the restrictors inside the hoses. While you have them apart you can block off 1 side of rail and shoot cleaner in other side to see if they are clear. I took the one out as a last resort as it was blocked after eveything...

my 78k was 14.5 for the floats, with them just seating they should be level with the slow idle jets. I shot carb cleaner through my slow idle jets to make sure it was getting through when I had them out. did you check the accelerator jets in each carb to see if you are pumping fuel through them...

    Hello forums

I kinda have to go with Dave on this, It would be better if you picked up a bike that runs somewhat so that you can learn to do the maintenance and general repairs first. Then you would be able to get further in depth with it . If you do get it understand you may not get it up and running for a...

Just rebuilt my carbs still a few issues looking for some advice 1978 k8

Yeah there really isn't much that I could find when I was looking back when I was doing mine either. It's a screw with a lock nut on it on the bottom of the rack that sets the idle when you pull the choke out to start it. That way your not adjusting the thumb screw when you start and later once...

Just rebuilt my carbs still a few issues looking for some advice 1978 k8

Well that's a good thing then, now that floats and needles seem to be good and accelerator pump rail is working I would do a sync on the carbs. See how it runs and check plugs after a bit to see if you need to adjust mixture screws any. While your at it it's a good time to check fast idle cam...

Just rebuilt my carbs still a few issues looking for some advice 1978 k8

I would keep working on number 3 until you get the clear tube showing it has a full bowl, it may be running but it is probably running very lean from pulling whatever gas is getting in it. Try tapping side of 3 with screwdriver handle lightly to see if needle is sticking.

Just rebuilt my carbs still a few issues looking for some advice 1978 k8

I did mine either on the center stand or a jig I made for the bench that allows me `to flip them to any angle to set them while being level I used a temporary gas supply from a old gas leaf blower fuel tank. If they are tilted I would think they would give you a bit of a skewed reading from the...

Just rebuilt my carbs still a few issues looking for some advice 1978 k8

getting the floats and needle seat working first, then recheck idle jets by pulling them out and seeing if all your holes are clear. ( I shot carb cleaner through jet to see if it was actually getting through while jet was in my hand) then a good synchronizing should do wonders. what exhaust...

"I disagree with you on this. Never stick anything in a jet. The slightest damage to the venturi edge will make it stop functioning correctly. Visually inspect them with a magnifying glass. if plugged soak in carb cleaner (the real stuff that comes in a can with a parts basket inside) and blow...

    LED Lighting conversion

I replaced the tail light along with all lights on the bike with leds, except for headlight, which I went with 7" housing with a 20/40w halogen bulb that lights up the road sooo much better than the old sealed beam that was in there. it's just the flasher when I got so low for draw that it...

    LED Lighting conversion

Dave I might have to try the led flasher you suggest, I did a little math when I put this all together and I had 200,000 milliamps on the 1 bulb, 250, 000 milliamps on the other and even less for the bulb in the dash and they failed to trip the flasher that I have that is rated at 2 amp minimum...

Just rebuilt my carbs still a few issues looking for some advice 1978 k8

when you cleaned carbs did you check to see if the accelerator pump was squirting gas into the carbs through the brass nozzles in the intake? did you take the idle jets out and clean them with a .010" cleaner ( a high E guitar string works great for this) ? and did you do the clear tube test on...

    LED Lighting conversion

I got all my stuff for my 78 750k led turn signals on ebay for about $30, you can find the stuff by searching ebay for these items. 2 x CARCHET 25W LED Turn Signal Light Load Resistor (get the ones with the bullet connectors on them and they...

    LED Lighting conversion

On my 1978 750k there are individual turn signal lights on the dash so you do not need the diode, just the earlier models with one indicator light in dash. I wound up using led bulbs in the front turn signals/running lights and tail/stop light. then put new leds in the dash and the speedometer...

    multi purpose rain gear

Looking for feedback on 2 piece rain gear for riding. I'm in Ohio right by Lake Erie and was thinking it would be good to be able to buy rain gear that could double for when on the boat and fishing. something that should last a few years and comfortable to wear. I've heard of Frogg toggs being...

Tubing between PD carbs sohc 78 k8

just redid mine, I put in 3/16" fuel line for both. the black ones for the accelerator pump rails also should have inserts that cut the inside diameter down to increase the pressure for the accelerator jets that shoot a squirt of gas into the carb when you hit the throttle (which depresses the...

I found allot of good you tube videos on replacing the fork seals, and you may be able to download a manual online. I was able to for my 78 750. And there are a few knowledgeable guys here willing to help you. good luck with your build. The nice part of working on bikes is there is less rust...

    Tail light wiring woes

I would not do that as the jumper that you put from the black to the brown blue has already made the switched connection. which has power to your fuse in the tailight circuit.

    Tail light wiring woes

sorry, Got busy over the weekend. on mine there is only the brown wire in the headlight bucket that is not connected and it shows that in your wiring diagram. The One brown with blue tracer wire goes to your turn signal buzzer, which you mentioned you do not have so that would be for that. That...

    Tail light wiring woes

Ray the harness you replaced it with is fine, it is probably a replacement harness like the one I had on mine, at some point the maker of the harness put in the color stripes to discern which 2 wires went to each of the fuses instead of having 4 brown wires and 2 reds at the fuse box. But they...

    Tail light wiring woes

sadly when I bought my bike 10 years ago they had the same fix in the harness so they have been making them this way for quite some time . when I took off the old fairing it had on it I found the PO had hacked up the wiring quite a bit and had added some wiring of his own. I went to a well...

When I said to check the brown and green wires I meant to put voltmeter connections 1 on the brown and the other on the green and see if he has 12v there.
