    Pulling my hair out!!

Hi i have a 1981 CB750F and I can’t get it to run right. The two middle cylinders run cooler than the outers. When at tickover the outers will be at 120degC and the inners around 60. When riding it feels like it running on 3. It starts immediately every time and idles Ok although it doesn’t...

    Primary chain tensioner issue

Hi Chris Not as such, I bought another used tensioner with less wear on it. Not ideal I know but couldn’t find and alternative. Haven’t started the engine yet so fingers crossed.

    Gear linkage ball joints

Hi I need to replace the ball joints on my 81 750. I was thinking of replacing with rose joints but I figure out how to get the ball part out of the levers?

    Cb750fb calipers 1982

Hi all. The front calipers on my 750 are knackered and seem to be like rocking horse shit. Are there any other calipers that will fit straight on or with some modification. I really want to use the original forks if poss Thanks Andy

    Primary chain tensioner issue

I did wonder about that. I'm not sure what it's made of but we use a structural panel bond at work that's stronger than the metal it's stuck to. But I'm not sure how it would perform in hot oil?? Risky......

    Primary chain tensioner issue

Yes. They are the ones on top of the chain. My one seems ok. It's just the pesky one that I can't get. Arghhhh!!!

    Primary chain tensioner issue

Thanks for the reply but those are the timing chain tensioner. I need the tensioner underneath the primary chain (from crank to primary shaft)

    Primary chain tensioner issue

Well I have the engine now fully stripped and am in the measuring and check phase. All going fairly well until measuring the primary chain length. The recommended measuring procedure in the manual shows that the measurement is about 10mm too long so a new chain is required. The bottom oil fed...

Cylinder Head Removal about to send me over the edge

I am fully expecting to have to decide that another engine may be the best option, but I hate the thought that something has beaten me. And as you said, it's a good learning experience and I'll know what to look out for next time. I have a Ducati 888 which I bought about 15 years ago which had...

Cylinder Head Removal about to send me over the edge

Well success, of sorts. I ended up die grinding through the 4 remaining bolts through the gaps in the cylinder block. This allowed me to hammer the bolts downward through the head which was just enough to allow a bit of movement and eventually I got 3 out. Then I made about 15 wooden wedges...

Cylinder Head Removal about to send me over the edge

I think (hope) the engine is basically ok. It turns over smoothly and so far all looks ok. There is corrosion in the exhaust ports as it's been sat with the exhaust resting vaguely near the engine so moisture has got in there. Cams and bearing surfaces all look ok. Oil smells ok. Once apart all...

Cylinder Head Removal about to send me over the edge

Tonight's instalment: I managed to remove 3 more studs with the heavy duty stud remover. So I'm left with 5 now. One of which snapped off level with the head and one which I know is not seized in the head as penetrating oil runs down past it with ease. The 4 problem ones are the middle 4. I...

Cylinder Head Removal about to send me over the edge

Hmmm..... I may keep going until it's definitely scrap. I've borrowed a heavy duty chuck type stud remover from a technician at work, so I'll give the studs another go and see what happens. If not, anyone know of an engine for sale ????

Cylinder Head Removal about to send me over the edge

Hi This is my first post after lurking around a bit. I have a 1981 750F which has been sat around for some time by the the look of it. I have stripped it down to bare frame and thought I'd tackle the engine first. Wont take too long I thought! The spark plugs were all very tight but I managed...
