    Wanted - Exhaust trims, CB900F or 750F

Think the shipping might be a touch expensive..... do you have pictures and a price?

    Plug problems.

For what it's worth, my CB750F has the same issue, as does my CB900F that's just had a complete rebuild including rebore, camchains, valves, plus new coils, plugs, leads, carbs rebuilt etc etc etc. If I catch it just right it'll fire up, if I don't catch it right it's a right barsteward to fire...

    Plug problems.

Be careful, it has way, way too much T.E.L. (tetra Ethyl Lead) that will form deposits on the back of the exhaust valves leading to hot-spots and burnt valves. 100LL Avgas actually has about 3 or 4 times more T.E.L. than old 4-star petrol!

Hi, looking for a pair of exhaust pipe heatshields/trims for a 1980-83 CB750F or CB900F, preferably in the UK. Chrome condition not important. Thanks.

Cb 750 and 900 parts usage

I've used 900 crank, rods, pistons, barrels and head on 750 crankcases with no issues. If you swap cranks, you also have to swap out the 750 primary chain and tensioner for 900 parts as they aren't compatible with the 900 crank (different number of teeth on the primary chain sprocket).

    Boot Insulator Preservation

Be careful with 100LL, even though it says "low lead", that's low in aviation terms to prevent knock in supercharged engines at altitude, not low for vehicle engines. It has almost three times the lead content (T.E.L.) as old leaded 4* fuel ever had (in the UK) and this is way too high for any...

    Lapping valves

I've lapped valves and re-cut valve seats on Honda engines for over 40 years without issue! What I wouldn't do, is reface the valves themselves. If pitting on the valves is minor and can be lapped out by hand in under 10 minute per valve then I'm ok with that. If the pitting is severe or needs...

Chain Tensioner Clip for Crankcase Assembly

Thin wire (I use aircraft locking-wire), over the tensioner blade and out through the crankcase, where you bring the two ends together and twist to lock in place, holding the tensioner fully compressed. When the cases are bolted up, just snip the wire and pull it through. Simples.

    1981 Honda 900F Super Sport

The thin gear has a tooth count of one different to the main gear and the hex bolt holds down against a friction washer to make the thin gear stiff to turn. This is deliberate by Honda, to help quieten any backlash between primary gear and clutch basket. The teeth of the thin gear and primary...

    Rebuilt starter drive

Sounds like a dry bearing in the starter motor. It's easy to remove and dismantle, I took mine out and fitted new brushes last year. Strip it, clean it out and check / lube the bearings. Personally, I'd fit new brushes whilst in there.

Is it my transmission or my clutch?

First thing I'd do is check that your engine mounting bolts are tight, followed by the rear sprocket retaining nuts.

    Is my bike suddenly cooked??

Is it actually getting fuel to the carbs? Try blowing back the fuel line to the tank. If it has the vacuum valve in the fuel line, bypass it to see if its at fault.

    Cam chains replacement

DID chains generally very good quality, but don't usually come with a rivet link, they tend to be endless.

    Primary shaft assembly

If you haven't got the workshop manual, I strongly urge you to get one. Also, the exploded parts diagrams on the CMSNL website can be handy....

    Primary shaft assembly

It's a seal, and really ought to be replaced if the cases have been parted, same as the output shaft seal (essential!). Primary shaft comes apart easily, circlips on bearings then drift shaft out of bearings with a plastic mallet. Separate the two halfs of the drive coupling and replace the 8...

    Sold / Found / Inactive - CB900F instrument cluster

Hi folks. Based in UK, looking for a complete CB900F instrument cluster please. Preferrably MPH but KPH would do as I can replace the faces if needs be. Must be full-scale though, no low-speed USA versions thanks.

    All sorted now, thanks.

    Cam chains replacement

From what I've seen of their products on a well-respected engine builders page on facebook, I wouldn't bother! The A-chain forward guide has to be hammered into place, not good! Standard parts being removed from engines as they are rebuilt are, what, pretty much 40 years old? So any new parts...

    Cam chains replacement

I've replaced the chains before, without removing the engine. The "A" chain can be purchased with a rivet link, the "B" chain doesn't need one. Installing the new chain is extremely fiddly - I can't begin to explain it, it's something you have to experience. Get the proper chain breaker /...

Drive Sprocket Seal keeps popping out

The seal has a lip right round the outer edge that locates in a groove machined in the cases. The cases need to be split with the engine out to replace it, if they've shaved the lip off to push it in with sealant, it'll never last.

Wanted - WANTED - CB900 oil cooler hose clamps

Hi folks, I'm in the UK and am currently converting a 750 to 900. I have the cooler and hoses, my 900 engine rebuild is virtually complete. I'm looking for the two half-clamps and special bolt that secure the cooler hoses to the bracket at the front of the cylinder head. I know, I could fit two...

My new mystery shed & buried find

I emailed Honda Uk at info.uk@honda-eu.com for a dating certificate, to get my 1985-registered CB750F correctly listed as manufactured 1983, to enable Historic status. They will email back to confirm if they have the info you require, at which point there is a fee for the dating cert. I...

Rotated the engine withhout a couple of shims in place

The danger of turning the engine with shims missing, is that the cam lobe catches on the raised edge of the bucket, causing the edge to distort and bind in the head when the valve is opened. If the bind is sufficient to hold the valve even slightly open, then valves can foul each other (inlet to...

    DVLA nightmare!!!

My CB750F was first registered 1985 and given a "B" prefix registration by DVLA. The bike was actually made in Jan 1983, I got a dating letter from Honda Uk and sent that to DVLA along with a covering letter requesting they update their records and put a marker in the box on the front page of...

    Engine paint

Unfortunately, having now had a quote for cerakote, it's out of the budget by a long way. 2 years ago I had an XL500 exhaust done (full system) and it cost me £80 (I'm in the UK). Same guy is now quoting £60 just to do a small-ish rocker cover that's already been laser-cleaned..... Sadly that...
