Honda CB750K '79 Cafe Racer EVO -project from Finland

Gotta tell you, I'm an old Harley guy and my taste in custom bikes usually runs to long front ends, ridged frames and drag pipes, but that bike is magnificent. I especially like the color. I almost bought a newer Triumph that was painted about the same color instead of the 10th Anniversary bike...

    Petcock missing tube

Just to show you that you aren't the only ones overthinking things. My '79 has a tank capacity of 5 gallons from bone dry. The tube on the primary is 3 1/2" long and I have to go on reserve with 1.2 gallons remaining in the tank. That 3.8 gallons gets me around 130 miles of range before...

I got the set for my '79 at vintagecb750.com

So, lend me your ears and I'll tell you a story,

I used to own a hot rod and restoration shop back before I "retired". My choice (probably made obvious by the thread I currently have running in this same forum) would be to bring her back to life as an original if she's not too far gone at this point. Not against some tasteful mods (modern...

    Wanted - 1976 CB 750F gas tank (75-78)

Not sure how costly it is, but I found several sites that will convert the microfiche to digital pdf files. I've got the factory service manual for my bike on pdf and use it more than the actual paper copy of the same book that came with the bike when I bought it.

    The rest of the story

Just FYI, I got my first bike in '67 when I was 16, a Honda 160 Scrambler. My first interaction with an HD rider was the first night I rode it to work. The San Jose, CA chapter of the HA had a rent house next door to the fried chicken place I worked at. They used to give me and the other kid...

    The rest of the story

My wife and I did the whole Yellowstone, Gillette, Sturgis, Custer thing back when we were riding American made machines. My wife would have moved to the Custer area in a heartbeat...until I explained what a snow fence was for. I do have one son who, for some reason, moved to North Dakota. He...

    The rest of the story

Some of you have been following my quest for the correct paint colors for a '79 CB750L 10th Anniversary Edition. All that is past now and the bike is back on the road. I'm finally ready to admit my mistakes. I bought the bike in Sept of '22 from a shop in Albuquerque, NM. I found it on the...

Honda CB750K '79 Cafe Racer EVO -project from Finland

Ah, in this country that would be referred to as a "SEMA build":bike:. It refers to the practice of sending cars/bikes/trucks to the SEMA show in the not-quite-complete state. I've got nothing against it, I've won the "under construction" class 2 different times at our local car show. No, not...

Honda CB750K '79 Cafe Racer EVO -project from Finland

Wow, you do excellent work. Nice job. Looking at the picture of the painted engine, I can't help but think how cool it would look if you filed the paint off the ends of the cooling fins. I think I'd start with the fins on the head and look at it before I decided to do the fins on the barrels...

OP hasn't been on the forum since '13, so pretty hard to tell.

    Let's see your CB750

The replacement tank I bought for my '79 Ltd bike was a shade of poop brown. I rode it like that for a whole summer before I got it fixed. Actually just got it running again yesterday.

    79 LTD Paint Color

Okay boys and girls. Got the paint on my bike done finally and in the next day or so she'll be back on the road. As noted above I wanted to duplicate the original Anniversary color scheme that she came with in 1979. I searched the internet, spent a couple of hundred bucks on sample colors and...

    For Sale - 1980, 1981 & 1982 CB750 parts for sale.

I think the limit is 5 posts, so you should be golden now. OTOH, @wwccll (that's surprisingly hard to type ;)) can message you. He's got plenty of posts.

Worth the resto, or mod it?

Yes, the '79 Ltd bike is electronic ignition from the factory. Also has the CV carbs, so unless you want to be constantly messing with the carbs, stay away from "pod" filters. I wouldn't mind replacement LEDs in the headlight and taillight, but I've never seen a set of LED turn signals that I...

Restore & Ride or Keep as is?

In 2011, when I was 60, a new friend asked me if I had anything but "toys". At the time, between my wife and I, we had 2 Jeep Wranglers, 2 classic 50-60's trucks and 3 Harleys. I had to admit that I didn't have anything but "toys". Today, at 74, I own a (different) Jeep Wrangler and my '79...

Worth the resto, or mod it?

Depiite what Digger said (becasue he dosn't much care for the DOHC bikes), that is the anniversary edition, and they only made 5000 of them. To people who like the DOHC bikes they're worth more. I've seen nice ones going for $7500.

    Cylinder Boring & Honing Survey

Wow. The 175 was my 3rd bike. Had a Trail 50 and a 160 Scrambler before that. Got away from Hondas for a while with a couple of Triumph choppers and then a venture into old Harleys for about 30 years. At one point my wife and I both had Ironhead Sportsters. My ability to keep 2 Ironheads...

    Cylinder Boring & Honing Survey

See, now you're making assumptions about my skills. You're assuming that I don't have the know how or skills to maintain and ride a 50-year-old motorcycle. I've been riding and maintaining motorcycles since at least 12 years before my current '79 model was gleaming new on the showroom floor...

Help on engine rebuild (what parts should be replaced)

With the exception of the gaskets, seals and the cam chains and tensioners I don't think I'd just preemptively replace any of that stuff without inspecting it first. A lot of that might be able to be cleaned or reconditioned which would save you a sizeable chunk of change which you could spend...

    Cylinder Boring & Honing Survey

You know who in the world hates engineers the most? The mechanics that have to fix the shit you design when it breaks...and it all breaks sooner or later.

Insurance app. declined: Bike is 750hp.

I use Progressive for the bike. Full coverage on my '79 CB750L is only $125/year. At this time I don't have anything else insured with Progressive, so no multi-vehicle discount or anything.

    Fitting a sidecar

I pulled a trailer behind my Harley for a lot of years and brought home some interesting stuff, but never another bike. I'd like to see a picture of that.

For Sale - 1979 HONDA CB750K, LOW MILES, CUSTOM PAINT, EXCELLENT!

She thought so. A step up from the '57 pre-unit Triumph chopper she owned before the Sporty. That paint job lasted longer than any of the others. She owned the bike 12 years and it had 4 different paint jobs in that time. She tended to take advantage of the fact that I knew how to paint.

For Sale - 1979 HONDA CB750K, LOW MILES, CUSTOM PAINT, EXCELLENT!

Rainbow micro-flake? I painted my wife's Sportster like that (minus the stripe) in the early 90's. Always got lots of positive comments at gas stops.
