if the tank is built right and the checkvalve in the oil pump work there is no need for a valve of any kind. You will always have some oil in the engine sump but if it all drains the check valve is bad and needs fixed. As long as you still have some oil in the tank to supply the oil pressure...
Two things...the oil pump has a check valve on the tank suction side in the stock oil system configuration. They go bad and cause the oil to drain to the sump. The other thing that hardly anybody knows is the design of the stock oil tank prevents oil drain back on the oil return to tank side...
i mean it wont hurt anything to clean it out but its just going to get carbon build up again at some point. Guess it depends on exactly how much build up there is as that can have some indication on engine condition as well.
Thats not terrible compression. It would have decent performance with that. If they are even I honestly wouldnt mess with it unless you find or have some more issues needing top end removal.
If you remove the top end I wouldnt put it together without boring, the cylinders like to wear out of...
Its not too bad just need to use all new o rings and stuff. Make sure the surfaces are all flat and if not have them machined. These things can go many more miles then yours if it has had good maintenance and everything checks out mechanically , if its not leaking and compression is good I...
Im glad you got a chance to visit and attend sturgis. Im about 20 minutes from sturgis but went to middle through high school there. We normally get some good snow but this winter has been odd, was 61 yesterday, 55 today and will be 33 and snow saturday lol Right now I could do any hosting...
What is your idle speed? Is this cold oil or operating temp? Verify that the oil restrictors are in the head? Cam bearing clearances normally get worn if idle speed has been set too low and can be a large oil pressure bleed off point. Who rebuilt the oil pump? Just because the clearances are...
The k and f are the same except the f has little stronger bolts. not 100% sure if the auto is the same but I think it is. The 2 stamped on it is the code for the size of the big end to use in the chart to select the right connecting rod bearing. Either 1, 2 or a 3 stamped on them depending on...
Nice, you should make a stop by the Black Hills some summer, great riding, fire trails etc. I always thought it would be kind of fun being a campground host out here in the forest.
They are all interchangable. you have to have windows so crank vents to the upper chamber of the valve cover. I never payed much attention but these are two of mine, Ill have to check my box of other ones to see what they look like. Post a picture from the top of the valve cover but the...
Send a picture of the oil jets and of the head. It almost sounds like an earlier head. The very early heads did not have removable oil jets. The later ones can get stuck but normally they fall out or get stuck to the oring and come out with the cam towers. They normally come out with just a...
whatever it takes to fill the hoses and the gallery, wont take a lot, basically just filling the hose itself and hopefully a bit will find its way into the pump. Really no point putting oil in the sump as it will get there from normal running, should only be maybe couple cups in the sump if the...
Sounds like either the tensioner isnt moving correct or the chain is stretched past what the tensioner can account for. Pretty sure they are no longer available from honda, it has been hard for many people to find them as they are common issue and aftermarket doesnt supply them as far as I...
They are not the smoothest shifting, 50 year old technology isnt as refined as modern bikes. If you have a certain gear that is bad it could be bent shift fork or worn shift drum.
The aftermarket harness seem to be fairly decent. make sure you get the correct year as there are differences. When you have the oil lines disconnected pour some oil in them and let the oil run down to the pump, it will help to prime it and make it pump oil faster. I use a pressurized oil...
Nothing special about the bolt it should come right out. It is one of the main bearing bolts so it would be pretty hard to get heat on it that far in. If it doesnt turn any diretion the threads are already messed up. you could try some penetrant and try working it see if it will loosen up...
The dohc bikes dont have the collectable factor of the sohc so unless you really like the dohc bikes its not going to gain you anything to restore it to stock. If someone is asking 10-15k they are going to be waiting a long time for someone to pick it up unless its very low mileage perfect...
yes the early 750 is desirable but kind of depends on how someone wants to build it is what someone wants for originality. around here probably 1000 not running and not original. missing stock exhaust and seat losses fair amount of value if someone wants and original or stock type bike. If it...
Yes cyclex and dynoman are my go to. dynoman has the head gaskets i like and they carry studs as well as many other engine parts. you really dont need the nuts the stock ones are fine to use on the heavy duty studs
Thats the problem, you cant do anything to the engine in frame. valve cover needs to come off and cam and cam towers need to come off and it wont come out in frame unless you cut the two top frame rails. There is a kit out there that makes them removable. If you switch to heavy duty studs then...
