I've been using carb cleaner and a soft brass brush. I ran all the parts and bowls through the ultrasonic cleaner but did not take the stack apart. I set the bowl height and had to get 1 new main jet. They seem to be pretty clean and functioning. Just bench synced them but my #2 has a stripped...

UPDATE: Got power it was a bad fuse and a bad starter relay. Did compression check. #1 151 #2 139 #3 133 #3 134 Squirted oil and all reading went higher by atleast 20+. Started electrolysis on tank. Oil pan off because the bolt is stripped and waiting on the washer for the oil filter it was...

Don't want a false reading. Should I not put any oil in the cylinders? Thanks again.

So do the normal 4 quarts. 1 on the tappets maybe some on the cylinders through the spark plug holes and rest in the sump? Which is the intake side? Thanks

Perfect! I will spray oil in there to do the compresion check and when I run it if the compression check goes well. I leave it open to see. Thanks,- 🙏

Update... took the tapets off and looks really dry but clean. I can spray oil in there but how will i know if oil is getting in there from below?

I guess i shouldn't have kicked it and instead done what you said. Move it by hand. Hopefully I didn't damage anything. I didn't know. If I did then I guess i will rebuild it.

Yeah, ill bleed them and run a decent amount through if I don't see leaks. If I see leaks obviously stop and address them. Thanks-

That's what I read online with the acetone. Ill do that and I bought evaporust. I'll run them through and finish off with vinegar and then baking soda to neutralize it. That will take a bit. Thanks-

The dark stuff doesn't seem like rust. Could be an old liner. I read if it is I need to get it all out before rust abatement. Any knowledge on this? Thanks-

It's free. I kicked it before I bought it. There was some oil left in the dry sump that I drained out. Just a tiny bit in the bottom. It feels like it has comprssion but won't know how much until I do the compression check. I'll drain the oil out of the engine and refill the sump. Thanks!

Nice! I'll get my battery today and check the compression. There is no break fluid in either master cylinder. Should I just bleed it through and check for leaks or is there a flush I should do first? Thanks-

So i found the engine plate when I took the airbox off. It's a 78 engine? I looked it up the 3's start in 1978 but it stops at 3000001. See photo.

My vin is 1977 but the engine is not original and has no numbers on the case so it's a mystery until I take off the cases. Still waiting on the battery to do a compression check.

Thanks, I will salvage anything that is in working order or can be rebuilt fairly easily. Hopefully no major issues. Would like to be riding her in a year but if it takes longer than so be it. I know very little so. I'm going to probably do some of the things 2-3 times to get it right. That's...

Got the air box off. Not sure if there is jet missing (not sure if that's what it's called) from 3rd carb. The brass looking things. See photos 1. Choke works. That's something. Besides that no clue what I'm looking at.

Got a telescoping light and finally got a look in the tank. Pretty crispy inside. I'm still going to try and clean it out. Whats all th3 black flakes? Just crazy rust? Thoughts? See photo of stuff in the bucket. All that came out of the tank!

OK, my confusion. Yes knew about that. Your comment made me think there was a sump that should have no oil. The dry sump is empty. I just got a telescoping light to look in and also check the the tank. Thanks

Sorry tried to look it up but it wasn't clear. I try and find answers before I ask but how do i do this? Yeah, I looked at another bike a month ago that had case repair from a thrown chain and he said he had a blank case he would throw in if I bought the bike. Common I guess.

Thanks I am so out of my element but loving learning so much everyday. When you know nothing you learn so much. I'll check the sump today. Should I take the cases off before I do the compression check to see what it looks like or just fill it with oil and do the compression check when my battery...

I meant used oil. I'll wait until my battery is delivered. Not sure if the starter even works. I guess I'll find out. The old battery won't even charge. Have it on a charger overnight and it's dead.
