I have an 81dohc that the engine is in need of major work. Have the opportunity to get a 75 with good engine but rest is needing work. Anyone ever swap engines between the two models?

Thanks. I appreciate your follow up. I have a couple other bikes from the 80s and do the work myself that I can/must. I’m not familiar with digging into the details of cam chains at all. I’ll find a way and figure it out, with the help of online resources, etc. 🤞

What’s it take to replace the cam chains onmy 81, and is it something an amateur can/should do? I’m more of a parts replacer than a mechanic, and finding a shop around socal or SLC is proving difficult

New to me 1981 CB750 Custom (DOHC), and I can't get the timing chain(s) to stop slapping, they just fall out of adjustment or slap at deceleration, acceleration, etc. so Imma thinking the cam chain tensioners are no longer doing their job (based on my web searches). I'm more of a parts changer...
