The Tach is from a DOHC motor; red line is 9500 Vs SOHC at 8500. Looks to me like someone slipped an early motor into a late frame.....check the engine numbers, you can tell the production year from the first 4 or 6 didgets. Everything else looks like a standard CB750C.

A good locksmith can make you a new key if he can come up with a blank. It takes a little time (20-30mins), a few bucks and you'll have a new key. You can do it yourself if you have a blank, a good sharp small 3 sided file and don't rush it. Use a little pencel lead or sharpy to mark the key...

April/24 Did another check and the V's were back up flurting with 15V again. So, I removed both the regulater and rectifier from my '77 parts bike and swapped them out.....once again I'm back down to 14v's at 5K. I'll check it again after a few tanks of fuel to see if everything is still...

I have an extra one off a '77 (same tank), has a couple of dents. One looks like an EZ push out from the inside, the other is top side next to the gas lid....above my body work ability to fix. Can post pics if interested. DFW, Texas

You can always send a sample to Blackstone Laboratories for annalysis. I use them for both by Vettes (will also start with my 750 with first oil change). It makes it easy to spot small issues long before they become large issues.

Looking at a 1980 DOHC Wiring drawing, I see two ignition coils and two spark units (CDI). I'm assuming your '79 is setup the same.

"The wiring diagram says ‘pick up’. Can anyone indicate what this is"? This normally refers to the electronic points or what would be Points in older bikes. Check out the area of the crank (probably right side) for a magnettic rotating switch mounted on the crank shaft. Good luck.

In my mind, the best thing that happened to the last two years of the "K" and early "F" bikes was going to the larger drive chain (and of course sprockets) over the K0 to K6. Back in the day, there was a company selling a "Super Chain" kit that was 3/4" by 1/2" that ran on a nylon rear...

I'm thinking that too; once I confirm the calibration of my 30 year old trusty Radio Shack Multimeter, I will look that the voltage regulater. I'm assuming that it is not adjustable? No way I'm getting off the easy!
