Potential major gearbox issues with my 1976 Honda CB750...

Have you checked the clutch adjustment (inside the right side cover)? Dangerous to talk about oil.... I don't know Rotella. Is it JASO MA2 spec (which is the stuff meant to be suitable for a wet clutch)? Also, the spec for our oil is 10W40 and 20W50. I have tried both and in hot weather I...

    Stator screws

They're not Philips heads, they are JIS. A Philips screwdriver will round out the heads. I use a manual impact driver with JIS bits. Pretty cheap on Amazon and I had 100% success getting previously undisturbed screws moving when I took my K6 apart. Seriously recommend.

    Can chain

Dirtdigger, at 1300rpm I'd guess the advancer could be starting to move. I haven't found it causes any hunting or hanging on my 750K6, so maybe those issues arrive if other aspects of the motors tune need attention, e.g. carb synch, running lean...?

    Can chain

It's a common question when you first get one of these bikes. First I highly recommend you download a copy of the workshop manual. It's comprehensive and easy to follow, takes things in steps. You don't mention how many miles on your engine. If regularly serviced they seem to run for high...

    Rear M-Cyl repair kit - 750F1

If I'm filling a system from empty, I remove the caliper from the disc, then tip it up, so the bleed nipple is the lowest point in the system. Then I use a medium size syringe, like you can get for turkey basting in a cook shop. I put a short plastic hose on the syringe, prime it with brake...

Difficult to be sure the photos are showing true. From the image I can see, it's not Antares Red, it's too light.

    Rear M-Cyl repair kit - 750F1

That's the colour I had, about 25 years ago. Convinced myself I needed a sportsbike and swapped it. I paid the price on comfort until about 10 years ago! Wish I still had it, made a nice noise. 👍 Honda made some great bikes in that era, FireBlade, CBR 6 and the FireStorm.

    1977 CB750F2 - Seat trims

I guess you've put the part no. into google. Have you tried these guys? https://dkmotorcycles.co.uk/product-category/dk-used-spares/honda-used-spares/ David Silver may have some remanufactured? They do for the earlier 750K seats.

    Cam Chain Spring Tensioner

It's possible the slider is snagged and needs TLC. What are you concerned about / why do you think your cam chain is slack? If you're trying to get a quiet and smooth idle at about 1,000 rpm, you'll likely never get there. I'm not convinced they ever did. Even with identical compression on all...

    Cam Chain Spring Tensioner

I removed my tensioner and found it was very reluctant to move on the spring. I gave the shaft a very light rub with 800 grit, then polished it with metal polish and it was much happier. Of course, the gasket was toast, so I made one up from a sheet of gasket paper. Assuming it's a 750? There's...

    Throttle linkages

The even earlier Keihin carbs (mine's a K6) are incredibly stiff when you try to move the throttle mechanism on the gantry by hand. So, I don't think that's a good test. Honda seem to have had a fear of the throttle hanging, stiff springs and push/pull cables. There's probably a story behind that.

    Clutch Issue

Clutch is not fully disengaging. Either clutch adjustment, easy to check. Or, after standing, you have gummy old oil sticking your plates together. Oil change and running it might clear it. Otherwise, plates out and clean.

    Loving the challenge

Well done. Are you going inside the cases? I didn't need to on mine. I'd been running it for 1,000 miles, to find out if I liked it and what was wrong. The problems were all in the head and glazed bores. But, I probably wish I had gone deeper now. Just to know I'd never need to take the engine...

    Idle speed won't come down

I don't know the later model's carbs, but I recall some had two idle speed screws. One adjusted the idle speed when starting on the choke. I think called 'fast idle'. The second was the more traditional idle adjustment when warmed up. If yours are like this, are you adjusting the correct screw...

Recommendations for an ultrasonic cleaner please

I fancy one, but not yet pulled the trigger. If I did, I would go for a larger one, as you can boil the water in a kettle first, to reduce prep time. Also, although they should be run nearly full (up to their marker level), to avoid premature wear on the ultrasonic bits, it's possible to load in...

A bit of fun for you all.

Not familiar with the DOHCs, but I'll play... Nice screw! If that wasn't original, I'd guess it was drilled to help push out a seized piston? Are the callipers on the wrong sides? I always have to check which side the gap should be on the front axle clamps, but it looks like a gap at the rear...

Mileage Ave. for Carb Adjustments and Timing

I sorted out an old Norton Commando's carbs (Amal) 5 years and 6,000 miles ago; still fine. I'm at 2 years and 4,000 miles on my CB750K6 (Keihin) since overhaul and a balance with vacuum guages; still good. I also have twin SU carbs on an old car, which can stand for a couple of years, then fire...

    Model Identification

Even UK bikes. Mine is matching no.s UK 750K6, 1st registered new in summer 1977, so it's a 1977 manufactured bike according to the DVLA. Same as now, as bikes reach the end of their run, they are less popular and hang around in showrooms and stockrooms.

What did you do to your cb750 today???

Stripped, de-rusted and re-painted my K6's clocks, their mounting bracket, warning lights holder and headlamp bowl, with rattle cans, including 2K clear. All came out well, except the headlamp bowl. Just not able to paint one half without causing overspray orange peel on the other half. Have...
