    Number 1 cylinder not firing

Hi: I think I have it turns out that one of the oil ring scrapper rings broke the end off and scored the cylinder with a 21 thou by 1/2" wide grove. Got new pistons 1mm over and should have it all back wy Wed so I can start to reassemble the motor. I found it by doing a dynamic compression...

    '82 CB750K cylinder #1 plug sooting

Hi Beavis: I got the engine out and ripped it apart and I found that the oil ring on the number 1 piston had jammed the corner into the piston land, which caused a bad gouge in the cylinder wall which was about 21 th deep. So needs to rebore and have gone with 1mm over pistons. I looked all...

    Number 1 cylinder not firing

Hi there I am using rg=eg gas, I have never found high octane to do anything for me. Except in the old days when I built engines that were really high compression. Then I would add av gas, expensive,...lol Where in Langley are you? I am by King and McCallum. I still have 5 bikes to do a...

    '82 CB750K cylinder #1 plug sooting

I have found a problem with my 19891 - 900F, my number one cylinder would break down (engine would miss and backfire), any time I put the throttle on. I had done everything I could think of, leak down, compression, carbs and even different carb set. I also had rebuilt the engine using 4 into 1...

    Number 1 cylinder not firing

Kinda tough on the motor to drive it that far with one cylinder not firing. Quicker for me just to take it apart and rehone and replace the rings. Only take a week of downtime, could do it quicker but not that big a rush.

    Number 1 cylinder not firing

Hi there: Bore scope said nothing, and I actually tried another carb set that I had from a know good source. So not the carbs, does the same exact thing with either set on. So that kind of eliminates the carbs to being the issue. Also inspected all the intake boots for cracks..etc, all good...

    Number 1 cylinder not firing

I tried something different today, a Dynamic Compression Test, this is where you have the engine running with the compression gauge installed. I found out that number 1 cylinder is trying to run with 90 psi. So looks like it is time to take the engine apart and install new rings and see it...

    Number 1 cylinder not firing

Another thing that I just thought of. I have a Tektronic oscilloscope and I am going to try and monitor the waveform/pulse coming out of the spark ignitors (under the seat), maybe I can see where that waveform is breaking down. On the subject of low compression has anyone tried the "Dutch...

You mentioned that you let it sit for awhile, no one else has mentioned this but it might be something to consider. If you have a siezed/binding oil ring it can allow more oil past which could contribute to the soot. Not enough oil to cause blue smoke that you can see but potentially enough to...

    Number 1 cylinder not firing

I have a 1981 Honda 900F (I know it is not a 750 but this is a problem that will be common to both). For some reason when I am running my bike I get a miss (popping) through the exhaust which I can hear and also feel with my hand. It is starting to drive me a little nuts as I have tried...

    1981 Honda 900F Super Sport

I am having trouble trying to figure out how to put the clutch basket back on the shaft. The primary gear has another thin gear in front of it that is covering the primary gears teeth so the basket will not go past the thin geared washer. It looks like the thin gear is held on with a 10mm...

CB750C Carb 2 leaking fuel, entire bike runs only on choke

I use the bronze or brass metal filters, clear housing so you can see when and if they get dirty. To run the bike without a filter is really just asking for trouble, the jets inside are really fine and when they plug up the only way to clean them is with an ultrasonic cleaner. The dirt just...

    1980 CB750 Runaway Idle

Sounds like you have some good advice to follow, I too would recommend that you get rid of the pods, they will give you nothing but grief, especially if you are new to the mechanical world as you say. You could rig up a temporary air intake with some rubber and a cardboard box with a proper air...

    New Main Bearings

I have found that the only problem is availability of the colour that you want. I ended up at $17 bucks each for 10 so $170 for a set for my 900F. But at least I did find a set in England. Nothing in North America. Netherlands has usually got some decent stock I have found over the years.

CB750C Carb 2 leaking fuel, entire bike runs only on choke

I would agree with all the above advice, a couple of points maybe worth mentioning, have you got an in line fuel filter in case there is dirt/rust in the tank. And when you are cleaning out the carb jets be extra careful if you try to clean out the jets with a wire it is very easy to damage...

Physical Exam just became an autopsy!

A clean piston is an indication that the cylinder has not been firing. Could be all kinds of things, like carb not working, coil not working, bad high tension lines, even a short in the high tension line. First thing I would look at is the spark and make sure it has one. after that I would be...

Cylinder head - broken flange bolts

I would agree that when you initially had a problem with the bolts coming free you should have stopped before breaking the bolt. One thing that has worked wonders for me is a infared heater coil, you can buy them Canadian Tire, Harbour Freight. It is a coil that you put on the bolt head and it...

    Main Bearing Look

The case letter is located on the back top right of the upper engine case. Where the engine holding bolt goes through. With that letter and the crankshaft marking you can determine the correct replacement bearings for the engine. With that said, as others have mentioned, I would mic out the...

Lwr Case - Is this a crack?

I would probably agree that it is casing marks. If you want to be absolutely sure then you can use a penetrating dye (like iodine) and see if it bleeds through the casing. Similar to a magna flux to test welds, but much cheaper. You can use most any small molecular liquid (like white gas...

Physical Exam just became an autopsy!

You will not know for sure until you crack open the engine. I would take the head off first and have a look at what you have. If the cam was in fact out by 180 degrees then you could easily have a broken piston/bent valve, Having the aluminum in the oil filter is not necessarily the end of...

I broke this part on accident. What is it called and can I get a replacement?

Use the JB weld, it's probably the only thing that is going to save you. Trying to solder/weld that pot metal aluminum would be a nightmare and only compound your troubles. Just fill it in solid with JB Weld (just that area) and then drill a new hole, should work great for you. I keep a...
