Good luck man! I am working on my first build now too. Everyone here is helpful. Take tons of pictures as your dismantling. That way you can always reference them if you need to and we all like seeing progress.

Rebuilding the case photos

New engine case is here. There may be a problem with it though. Can someone help me out and let me know if I can proceed on the rebuild? I put a close up picture of one of the journals and it is chipped. I don't want to put this one all together for problems to happen down the road. Thanks...

I bought the new case and it is in the mail. Just waiting on it. Tonight I am prepping my garage for its arrival.

With that case it looks like it is terrible shape outside. Is this something I can sand blast? I spent hours cleaning the case I bought with simple green and wire brushes and don't really want to do that again and it was in good shape. Also When I redo it the bible/manual is not very clear on...

Thanks for your help dirtdigger. Do you know where I can find another case or even better a whole engine for my k8? I have been looking online and have only found one engine for $650 and it doesn't look good and only find cases for cb750A's.

Notice the case near the drive chain sprocket. That was the reason for replacement. To remove nasty stuck screws I heated them up and hammered in a 3/8's drive type allen wrench. Bam. Last photo should be new case that I cracked.

I hand tightened all of the upper and lower case bolts then started to tighten the upper bolts little by little and snapped part of the lower case near the gearshift bearing. When I get done at bar ill post a picture.

Well folks, I cracked the new case. I am very disappointed. I followed the sequence and on one of the turns... Pop! Back to the drawing board. Anyone have a lower case??? Ha

Just ordered screws from Honda. Can't wait to get this build finished! Since I have to do a bunch of hurry up and wait for parts I decided to paint the engine and some covers.

I got 2 out of 4 by heating them up and impact driver. Two things, dreading the Dremel (don't have one and more than likely about to own one) and where do I find the screws to replace them? This is my only transportation and want to finish quickly but do it right. Thanks DD

Dirtdigger I don't completely understand. I removed all of the springs and what not linkage. I could not get off the piece with 4 screws that connects to the bearing. Is there a trick to them? I destroyed my impact driver bit trying.

More progress.. I took the rocker arms off, got the cam shaft out, lifters and all 5 million cylinder stud nuts (really 22 nuts) off. [Note: There are 4 hidden nuts, you will need a thin walled 10mm socket or a light tap with a hammer to the long extension. They are under the rubber seals in...

Oh how could I forget, the damn carbs were harder than crab to pull out. The bible says remove the carburetors in one line! Psshh easier said then done. I destroyed the clamps on the hoses between carbs and air box.

Finally started the tear down. Here are some pics. So far the only real tricky part has been actually getting motor out of frame with just my own two arms.

Thanks! I got it man. I tried 20 different things yesterday so when I tackled it today it was a cinch to remove old exhaust and install the new one. I did it in 45 min start to finish. I can't thank you enough. Next up is my clutch!

Thanks jackbeagle! So the half moons do not slide under flange? I guess I had it backwards. I'm headed home to try again.
