Removing engine yourself

I found it the easiest to remove the frame from the engine instead of engine from frame. But thats only an option if you are going to tear it down anyway. What model do you got?

Late to this thread. My advice is use a Hoist/crane. I lifted my 79 DOHC engine by hand on my own and ruptured a tendon. A year on it’s still sore!! Needless to say I bought a second hand crane hoist.

I just removed an engine from a '81 CB750C. It was TOO easy. I used a 4 wheeled furniture moving dolly. The dolly has 1/2" plywood screwed to the top of it. Bike on centerstand, I rolled the dolly under the engine and placed blocks under the engine to fill the space between engine and dolly, oil pan removed. With the dolly and blocks in place I removed all engine mounts, engine would not clear the frame at this point, but it was so easy. I placed another block of wood under the front of the engine, 1-1/2". This final block tilted the engine and made it narrower. The dolly easily came out with the engine. Gonna try to take pictures when I put the engine back in. I will use the same blocks, when the engine is lined up with the frame I will remove the 1-1/2" block. The motor mounts will then be close enough to mount the motor.

All of this easily done by one person. To tilt the engine to place the last block, that tilts the engine, I used a strap under the engine and around the frame backbone to pull the engine up. That could also be done with 2 people and no strap.
