Hello everyone,

Last night while attempting to remove the fork seals from my front right lower case (51420-MW3-A41), the seals got stuck and I wasn't able to get them out without ruining the right lower case. With this being the situation, I'm on the look out to replace the right lower case, as well as a couple other components in the right fork. I'm trying to figure out what fork components are compatible with the 1996 forks.

For the 1995 model, the fork model # is 51400-MW3-A21.
For the 1996 model, the fork model # is 51400-MW3-A41.
For the 1997 model, the fork model # is 51400-MW3-A42.

Are there any characteristic differences between the fork models? Can I use the fork lowers from one of these model years on my bike? If anyone has some insight, I'd really appreciate it.

Hello!

Getting ready to post about my fork issues when I noticed your‘s from earlier this month. Hoping you have been able to resolve the situation.

If you still have your shocks on the bench, I’d appreciate some information.

I just replaced the seals on my ‘93 Nighthawk and, following advice from YouTube, I took the shocks apart by removing the Allen bolts that go up from the bottom of the shocks and connect to the inner part. Finally got everything back together and found both sides are slowly leaking around the bolts. 😱 There are copper washers on each bolt and I’ve ordered a pair since I can’t figure out what else may be causing the leaks.

Something else I noticed has me puzzled and maybe you can help. When both bolts are tightened, the top of the bolt on one side is even with the opening where the axel slides through. On the other fork, the bolt head is recessed about a 1/4”. I suspect the bolt that is flush is correct, but can you check yours and tell me where yours are?

Not sure what to do with the information but I’ve got to begin by determining which bolt is properly seated.

Thanks.
