    79 CB750L plan of attack

Thanks amc49. Is it likely for a bike to fire up (even on starting fluid) with compression that low on 3 out of 4 cylinders? I was shocked when I saw #’s that low after hearing it fire up. I’m hoping I just have a bad tester.

    79 CB750L plan of attack

OK, after getting a grounding issue and buying a decent set of jumper cables, I was able to do the compression test on my newly acquired 79 CB750L. Figured I'd move this over to the engine forum since electrical issues are sorted. After seeing the compression test results, I'm wondering if I...

First part purchase.... After spending the weekend tinkering and checking the bike over, I was digging through the boxes of parts that came with the bike. Obviously the previous owners claim to never being able to dial in the carbs came from his goal of using pod air filters. Found 3...

    79 CB750 Starter issue?

Thanks amc49... Realizing that it's time for a new set of jumper cables. There is no question that these are undersized for anything useful. Never realized it until i pulled them apart after reading your post. Actually embarrassed that I've been using these pcs of junk for this long without...

    79 CB750 Starter issue?

Thank you... after doing a bit more looking over the bike, I realized that the previous owner only had two of the long motor mount bolts installed, and one of those was just a long pc of 3/8" all thread with two stainless acorn nuts. The upper rear motor mount bolt is supposed to have the...

    79 CB750 Starter issue?

Ok, took starter apart and was surprised how clean it was inside. Obviously had been rebuilt at some point. Still cleaned up the contacts and checked the brushes out it all back together. Hooked it back up to the battery and put my voltmeter on it to test. 12.48 volts at connection ends and...

    79 CB750 Starter issue?

Hello, just brought home a 79 CB750L project. Bike is partially together and was able to get it running with some jumper cables and starter fluid at the previous owners place before making the purchase. Once i got it home, i tried again as i wanted to do a compression test. Yeah, i know, should...

Hello, new member here that has been wanting to do a scrambler/tracker build for many years. With the extra time during the pandemic, the fire started burning again so I started to look for donor bikes. After lots of searching and passing on bikes that I later wished I had taken, I realized...
