    1980 Honda CB750F Cafe build

So, work completed to date with a few pictures: Bike stripped down for cleaning Frame cleaned, chopped, and welded (still pending powder coat, waiting until I finish up the seat and a few other things so I don't mess up the new finish) Engine disassembled, inspected, cleaned, painted, and...

    1980 Honda CB750F Cafe build

Hey, a little late into my build but figured I'd post pictures to date for everyone's viewing pleasure and maybe get some feedback that helps me along the way (btw, thanks to everyone who's helped thus far!). Quick summary: purchased two 1980 Honda CB750Fs back in October, both were in pretty...

1980 CB750F Carb decisions, would appreciate some experienced input!!!

Will any of the more experienced folks on here (maybe amc or dirtdigger) provide some advice on whether I should put in the effort to repair, rebuild, and re-jet the stock CV carbs or should I look at a replacement? I'm planning on using pod air filters and either a 4-into-1 (Delkevic) or a...

    Clutch pack adjustment

Yep, still can't get that cap out, and at this point I have probably jacked the lip up too much to get it our even if I free the threads... I have no idea how it's stuck in there so tight, almost like it's welded... I've probably put the equivalent of 75-80 ft/lbs of torque on it and shock it...

    Clutch pack adjustment

Update: Apparently I can get a complete clutch cover for $25 on ebay... totally worth it. I may post a video of the dramatic disposal of my current clutch cover later...

    Clutch pack adjustment

Yep, turning counter clockwise. I have another identical bike (1980 CB750F) that I pulled the cap off with no problem, this one is just exceedingly stubborn. I've tried bumping with a brass dead-blow, WD-40, ATF/Acetone mix. I haven't tried heat yet, need to get another torch, but the idea...

    Clutch pack adjustment

Resurrecting this thread, I can't get this clutch cover cap off, I fabbed a piece of 3/16" steel to fit in the slot, but I still can't get the damn cap off... I've got some WD-40 sitting on it right now, hopefully it penetrates the threads a little, but I'm open to any other suggestions before...

Could use a little help, issue with exhaust cam sprocket punch alignment!

Thanks, amc. I got it lined up, had to pop the exhaust cam sprocket off while the cam bearing caps were installed so the cam didn’t shift while I lined the chain up. Kind of a pain getting the chain/sprocket back in place with the cam secured, but at least that parts done. Follow up question...

Could use a little help, issue with exhaust cam sprocket punch alignment!

I'm reinstalling my cams, with the crank at 1.4 - T and my exhaust cam installed with the #1 cylinder lobes pointed towards the spark plugs, I can see the sprocket punch marks above the head, but they don't align perfectly. They're probably closer to parallel with the floor than parallel with...

build done 97%, honda cafe racer 1981 DOHC, crazy look

That looks great! What instrument gauge did you use and how does the exhaust sound with that 4 to 1?

Cafe racer build - where do you put your horn...?

Doing a cafe build on a ‘80 CB750. It’s still in about as many individual parts as it can possibly be, but I want to figure out horn placement before I have it powder coated in case I need to weld a bracket. I’m thinking of hiding my horn underneath the tank near the coils, but it’s kinda...

    Crankshaft Bearing Code

Damn, that’s what I was afraid of, oh well. The flattened sections on the crank where the markings should be are completely clean. On one section I can almost make out something that might be a “B”, but otherwise the only markings are from casting. The engine only has 28k on it (at least...

    Crankshaft Bearing Code

“Gotten away with it” makes me think I should get them measured..... it doesn’t look like my micrometer is calibrated closely enough to measure them accurately (appears off by almost a thousandth of an inch, or my shaft somehow got larger...), so I’ll have to take them to a machine shop. Based...
