1991 Nighthawk...was out riding the other day. Yesterday I go out and turn the key and nothing happens. Lights don't come on the gauges, headlights don't come on...Everyhting is completely dead. I tried a jump and that didn't do anything either. I checked all the fuses and they are all good and so seem all the connections in the headlight bucket. I did see find this on the positive wire going back from the battery to the solenoid. Some suggestions...could it ne the solenoid is fried? Maybe the ignition switch? Bad battery?

If that was shorting to the frame (ground) I might suggest that the battery might be dead. Measure the voltage of the battery? Charge it?

I tried a jump...but still got nothing... Shouldn't the gauge lights at least have come on with the jumper cables attached And energized

Sounds like a fuse is blown or there is a bad or open connection between the battery - and frame (ground) and battery + and fuses, solenoid, etc.
Check all connections. Maybe remove connections and terminals and freshen them up.

You didn't mention if you checked the ignition switch. A friends ignition switch went bad, same results you are having. Pull headlight, find the two wires to the switch, stick a needle or straight pin through the wires and see if you get power.
