Damaged Piston?

Hello everyone, I'm in the process of rebuilding the engine and I found that one of my pistons has a little scratch/edge on it. I can clearly feel it with my fingers and it pokes out a bit. I'm wondering if I need a new piston entirely.

Weird thing is the cylinder/sleeve isn't damaged at all.

If this is unrepairable damage do you guys have any recommendations for where to buy decent pistons? I found some relatively cheap on 4into1 but it seems they're sold out/unavailable.

Thanks

I'm no expert engine builder, but I think that could be salvageable. You really have to figure out how it happened though. Hopefully someone with more engine building experience chimes in.

Thanks for the reply!

Given the fact that the cylinder sleeves have no damage leads me to believe I somehow damaged it. But I have barely touched it. I'm not exactly sure how or when this happened tbh.

Just grind it off smooth with a dremel and it will be perfectly fine. Never know the difference as long as the skirt is fine.

For me, I wouldn't be putting a Dremel to your piston, especially if its something you have done before. Inspect both above and below the damage. Inspect the rings as well and make sure there is nothing preventing the ring from moving in the groove. The reason you might not see any damage to the cylinder is that it just happened. If you are going to put any tools to it I would recommend a very fine hand file. Its easier to control than a Dremel. And looking again at the picture, it looks like there is more damage to the surrounding area than that tear. Just take your time and work it slow.

I think ill try the file and take my time. I'd rather have more control like you say.

Thanks for the replies everyone
