In my pursuit of a CB550, I happened to come across a 750 with a title on Craigslist. So I made the 3 hour round trip to pick up this bike.
This bike is intended for my girlfriend to learn on, so it's going to be fit for her to ride. I'll post as many pictures as I can as we go through from beginning to end, so be patient as it will take some time.

First plan is to strip the bike down.
The parts list I'm building will include many things my GS750 has, like Dyna ignition and dynojet carb upgrades.
The wiring on this bike will be replaced, as well as some custom stuff I plan on doing a little later.

Here are a few pictures so far:

Will update as I go.

Got a CB900F gas tank, and it looks pretty good.
Going to start cleaning it all out.
I look forward to getting some help from you guys soon!

Thanks, mate.

Will try to update more photos as I work on this thing.

Carbs are off to be professionally cleaned and jetted/bench sync'd.

Got the CB900F tank soaking with chem-dip for the 3rd time.
I've been cycling between 48hrs chem dip, rinse, and then boiling water with detergent.
She's currently soaking one more time in chem-dip, trying to free up some rust in the bottom edges.

Found out a spark plug fits nicely in the pet-cock hole for the tank.

Working on making a center stand for the bike. (Didn't have one when I picked it up.)

Finished cleaning out the fuel tank, and actually Kreem coated it (Don't know if I'll regret doing that.)

It's starting to come together.
Pulled the wiring harness, headlight, bad brake master, and old deteriorated cables.

Here are a couple pictures:

Tuned in. I may have a 750C but the shapes of the frames are similar. What tank is that your using?

Also, I assume your rewiring yourself. I just ripped out my harness also and kinda seem in over my head.

Tank is from a 900F.
Yes, the wiring on the bike wasn't in workable state.

Shouldn't be too bad to make one. This bike has a couple things on it my GS750 doesn't, like "spark units" (2-total). I'm guessing they're like igniters, but I haven't looked into them yet.

Same old card trick.
Cleaning up the wheels, then I'll use some black enamel:

Degrease and clean with alcohol tomorrow then paint.

Anyone know of a better place/price to get a replacement stator and rectifier?

Stores on ebay carry them, get both for $150.

That seems like a good price.

Your pictures in post 4 look great! Where they taken with a different camera?

Yes, I took them with my pro gear. :)

Most of the time I'm working, I'd rather not drag my rig out into the garage to take photos.

More to come.

looking like you are off to a good start. i'm currently working on an 82 nighthawk 750.
ive gotten it to run, and i rode it around the neighborhood for about a mile, but i had to use more and more throttle and it bogged more and more. it stopped starting altogether. im thinking its crap in the carbs, so my mechanic friend has the carbs and he's going to clean and bench synch them for me. any time i have messed with removing wiring harnesses, it has been a complete nightmare. you have a long road ahead of you. i wish you luck. and i hope your girlfriend is ready for the trip as well, lol.

Small update:

Cleaning up the tank a little bit, I'll have it done tomorrow.
The front wheel cleaned up nice. Might get some new rotors for it, then start the rear wheel.

Here are a couple pics.
I will take pro photos later, promise.

Got some parts on the way, start getting those taken care of.
I also got a new Push-Pull throttle assembly, grips, and clip ons.

The top of the gas tank is pretty fuct, so I'll probably end up painting the top surface and mask off the sides. Should look pretty unique.

Carbs are done, and are being shipped back to me. (Major pain, glad I had them rebuilt because I was missing so many parts.)

I gotta test the CDI boxes I have, see if they're in good shape.

Going through these CV carbs, I noticed the vacuum cylinders don't move when you reach in and try to lift them up with your finger.

Unless they're unlike any other carb I've seen for these bikes... am I missing something here?

Yeah, exactly.

Basically, what I ended up doing was sending my carbs (basically 100% disassembled) to a shop in town that specializes in Honda carbs/bikes. They were supposed to clean and assemble them.

I talked to them about them, and they said bring them back. So I'll do that.

Though, now that they're back together... I could do it all.
It's how I learned on my GS carbs.

But since I paid them, they might as well finish the job.
Should have been done right in the first place.
