What does it do? It seems like a switch or a button but I'm not sure. Is it sufficient to super glue it back on or do I need to replace it? Thanks.

Dead battery next. Do NOT break the black plastic plate that holds both of them, you will likely find it considerably harder to find at a reasonable price.
