Hey guys so I'm new to the CB750 family but I recently inherited a '79 CB750k and only 2 cylinders were firing. I've timed the engine and all 4 are firing with the exception of #2 which is sputtering with an occasional backfire at idle. Carbs are clean but when I touch the throttle the engine dies and I'm at a loss. Any help would be appreciated!

Are the coils connected to the correct plugs? They have factory numbers on them, but they connect to the cylinders in a different order.

Compression test! Always do that 1st.

#2 which is sputtering with an occasional backfire at idle

If you have a burnt valve on #2 anything else you do is a waste of time.
