Hello, I am working my way through my engine, DOHC, cleaning, checking etc. I have removed the oil pan and needing a new gasket I need to remove the old one. The question is, how? It is stuck fast to the crankcase face. I do not want to use anything that will scratch the mating surfaces, anybody out there have a suggestion? Hope there is:) Thanks.

Soak the case. I've taken forever using razor blade before to virtually zero damage. If you have no patience you will fail.

Razor blade is the best for being careful and not damaging important surfaces. I use Roloc bristle disks on a small air powered angled die grinder on most general gasket surfaces.

I use a razor blade too, but be-careful bcuz you can gouge soft aluminum. I usually try and soak the gasket it something like motor oil, then use a small metal wire bristle brush.
