Hi. I bought my first bike - 78 cb550 - about a year ago and I've tried to make several repairs with much more success than frustration. I'm trying to change the front brake pads now, and after successfully removing the caliper, I was able to get one pad out by loosening a cotter pin I saw in there. But the other pad shows no indication of how its fastened. Pardon a potentially silly question, but is there a trick? Or am I missing something?

Thank you.

Have you gotten a Clymers or other workshop manual yet? I'm not sure how to get that pad out but I'm sure someone here like amc49 will answer

It should just pop out. Commonly they corrode in place though.

Shows no retention device of any sort for the other side, the piston and groove in caliper shell hold it in place.

Part #23 is the cotter pin to hold other side in place, and there is a split roll pin in there to keep the puck from rotating.

Hey thanks a lot. I thought it would be the case but prefer to be careful and not damage something. Thanks again.

If more people did like you there would be a lot more useable basket cases on this planet for projects.................
