CB750KZ 1980 - I had the infamous spinning starter clutch scenario so I duly replaced the springs etc, threadlocked the 3 bolts and put back together. Now after a couple of normal starts the spinning has started again, could it be the unit where the springs etc are housed could be worn? Has anyone heard of that before?

Possible. The 3 rollers in there can easily do it too.

If using a car oil with the zinc removed like many are now then that can do it too. The car stuff is TOO slippery, the replacement friction modifiers for the zinc do that. Use a bike specific oil with a JASO label on it, that can help. The bike oil still has zinc in it since the small use of bike oil is allowed through EPA regulation. Be prepared for a higher price though, what technically illegal oil costs, you're paying to pollute there.
