Has anybody tried cleaning their carbs by boiling them in lemon juice? I thought I would try it, hoping that it wouldn't dull the finish like traditional carb dip does. Well, they come out looking the same, plus some of the grease and grim build up on the exterior of the bodies was still there. Needless to say, I don't think it was worth the trouble. Just wondering if anybody had different results.

Lemon juice is citric acid, how could it NOT etch the metal??? In fact both acid AND alkali will eat aluminum. Look at the MSDS................

Petrochemicals like the same that were in the fuel will do it but gotta wait for them to soften the deposits. I use acetone (much faster) but it will wreck any rubber parts. It will not etch the surface of the aluminum.
