So I picked up a 80' cb750c a couple weeks ago

Started tearing it down completely was thinking about doing a single sided hard tail before I realized the frame is bolted together...I have autocad and solid edge experience so still might try and design a weld on single sided hard tail kit and sell it if anyone is interested let me know

I got it down to the motor and frame then proceeded to get the motor out of the frame

got the motor out of the frame and started sanding the frame and taking the motor apart...I must not be to lucky cuz I got the top end off the motor and one of the exhaust crank shaft bearing bolts broke off on my shouldn't be to hard to fix

I will add more to the build as it goes along...waiting on some cash flow to get the rebuild kit for the engine and gonna try and start designing the frame...does anyone know where I can get a full motor rebuild kit? How hard is it to rebuild this motor? I was in the navy for 5 years working on gas turbine engines so I figure it can't be any more complicated then that lol thanks for looking.

So I decided nothing crazy....funds and a new baby on the way made the decision for me! Lol but I'm doing a low cost cafe racer to flip and build another till I can get my funds right...
Here's what I'm thinking the stock cb750c 80 ride height is a little high in the front to get that signature parallel to the ground line so I wanted to see if I could do a conversion for a newer front end found a couple sites and if I send in the stem with the lower triple u could have a newer Gsxr front end for about $200 but in the rear I'm working my magic doing what I can with what I got...

I started this seat pan out of old scrap metal from me. Urging out my grille on my truck but it actually fits perfect! I used the stock mounting point for the front
c15ae680222d87e5604eac0c2413677d.jpg

These four holes with bolts run through work out great with the stock set up
e4ac01d59a3ca9bf3de28b4030cf6f43.jpg
so I cut off the original rear hoop seen here
bfbe02f38c90575b2eef14bd062c23be.jpg

Flattened it out and plan on using it as my rear seat bracket just have to weld into place
2fb7345bde199d82fcfe3e22f297dcc1.jpg

Then I will drill holes and add bolts accordingly then I will add the seat hoops in the back I picked up some 3/4" 90 degree tubing thought it would slide right in to exciting frame but the frame has a 1" and 3/4" tubing in the back as seen here
9cda5ebbb48120d8e22de20bc1e1d640.jpg
so I'll have to go back to Home Depot get 1" tubing and cut it to size and weld just can't decide if I wanna do a brat style seat with the stock hump in the frame or do a big hump in the back

Forgot to say I trimmed the frame 3.5" to fit the hoop and seat

This is trimmed with the seat pan on once I weld the hoop on I will trim the seat pan accordingly

So I decided to scrap the seat pan in the above pictures used it as a template for the electrics tray I did the full length of the back end

Still need trim and weld a little more you can see it on the sides

Then I proceeded to start the actual seat pan started with a card board template
9f703330721153cbc6a503bf7b5810bc.jpg
ignore the other writing it was a GT suspension I was working on

Placed the template on some sheet metal traced it out now this part would have been much easier if I had/could afford the right tools to do it I have a grinder a vise some regular nail hammers one nylon hammer and a little mig got the metal shaped to size.

I am trying to be as resourceful as possible on the build so I am using stock mounting point and also using the stock brackets off the seat just modified here is the seat pan cut and bent into shape
c53b0ffa5c82fb88b1f6418b0d30647e.jpg
I bent the front over the tank tail just to clean it up a little bit but like I said using the stock mounting points

got everything tacked into place and started welding and grinding

And there's she is

I am getting some taller rear shocks for clearance issues I also have some front gussets on templates tossing around the idea of relocating the ignition to there let me know what you guys think

Looks like it's been a couple of years since you've posted on the 1980 cb750c build but, I'm just wondering if it's finished or close and, what the seat looks like
