Gentlemen, hope all of you are well and ready for better riding weather.
I was hoping someone with electrical experience can give me a clue.
For another project I picked up some coils which seem to be made by Hitachi,
they are marked 12V CM11-53. Curiously they also say "use with external resistor".
Does this just mean to use a plug cap with resistance?
What does this apply to on a motorcycle? Can I use these on a points system?
thanks all, good riding.

As you know the older Honda coils have built in plug wires.
The ones on my existing coils are shot, so I thought maybe I could use these.

I have never seen those coils before. The use external resistor means you need to use a resistor in the power wire going to the coils. Its hard to tell by the picture but it only looks like one plug wire per coil? If that is the case then they wont work. I would look for some used oem style coils and be done with it.

Yes,
to be honest these are for my Honda twin project.
I know this is a SOHC 4 forum, but it's somewhat of a generic bike question.
Quite possibly used on Yamaha's as MikesXS has these but the CM11-50 version
which are also used as replacements for older Honda twins. I took a chance on these as the price was sweet.
I knew some canister coils for old jalopies or tractors used external resistors,
but on motorcycle coils it's a first for me.
thanks, daren.
