Well, I know I havent posted any progress pictures of this and as soon as I get all the pictures on to my computer I will post them in this topic.

But here is what I started with....

1979 Honda CB750 in an Amen hardtail frame. I got the bike almost as what you see here and rode it like that for a year and a half. I did add the bars, controls, and clean it up a lot right away after I got it.

The bars are 15" TC Bros apes
Forward controls are the universal TC Bros forward controls and then modified a tiny bit to work on this frame.

Before...

And this was taken yesterday when I was bringing it home from the shop.

After...

Here is my new tail light and license plate holder I made as well. Not bad for about $7 worth of materials.

I replaced the AMEN gas tank and old Harley sportster rear fender that had seen a better day and got rid of the sissy bar and gave the new rear fender and the sportser king tank and new rear fender about 5 coats of Electric lime green and 4 coats of clear. Still needs a final wet sand and buff to really make it shine. All in all took me about 6 weeks from start to what you see here. All thats left to do is put some gas in it and go for a ride but thanks to mother nature, that wont be happening anytime in the next week.

Hope you like it and like I said, I will post more pictures very very soon. It looks like a whole new bike and I cant wait to go riding. :) :bike:

P.S. And yes I will be fixing the pods on the carbs and taking it in to get them tuned. It needs it really bad. lol

Looks great Kevin!!

I've heard those carbs are a bitch to tune for pods, but I don't have any first hand info on that.
What did you do with the Amen tank? Still got it? Wanna part with it?

Anyhow. I hope the weather clears upp for you so you can put some miles on that beaut!

Im still trying to decide what I want to do with the gas tank. I have another project I am going to be starting here real soon and I might use it on that but im not sure. Ill see when I set the tank on there what it looks like. I liked it but at the same time, I wanted something bigger and I always loved the classic sporty tank so a king sportster tank it was (3.1 gallon tank). The way that AMEN tank was mounted I could only get a gallon and a half of gas in it at best and I couldnt use a petcock that had reserve cause of the petcock location so I ran it out of gas a few times. I included a few pictures of the tank here. If I decide to let it go, I will let you know.

As for the carbs, Yep, they stink but I have a guy that is going to rejet and tune em up for me.

Took it out for its first ride yesterday after dealing with some gremlins. It went alright but I have to make some adjustments to the carbs a little since I tore them down and cleaned them up. Hopefully will get to that tomorrow and try it again. Ride was good for 60 miles though so im more then happy. :)

:D

Oh yeah. Had some hiccups along the way here and there but I rode the snot out of it. lol Ill post up some pictures here in a bit of some of the garage time that went along with riding it this summer.

Nice, I rode a lot this summer but not on a cb750 much less a rigid. How rough is it riding a rigid?
I want to start building one this winter.

One of its first somewhat trouble free rides of the year. Still screwing around with them CV carbs

I dont have any pictures but soon after my front tire took a crap so a new front tire had to go on. Best part is, took little to no weight to balance it out and it got rid of every bit of vibration I was having in the front end. Score right there!!

Just got back from ridding and buddy decided to snap a picture.

I was trying to avoid this at all costs but I I was about to put a bullet in my bike and buying a whole new set of carbs was out of the budget so a few tweaks and some electrical take and its liveable now. Its not 100% but at least it runs 100 times better. While the pods look great, they suck on these CV carbs. I couldnt believe how much just taping up 1/2 to 3/4 of the filters made the bike run WAY better!!!

The chain that was on the bike finally took about all it was going to give for its life time so for an extra few bucks I decided, why not go green with that also...

Of course, I wasnt about to run a half link so the next best solution, a home made chain tensioner. Its not permanent as im going to put a spring loaded one on this winter but it worked. I had an old junk skateboard wheel with bearings that were junk to begin with so that wheel didn't last long but the new one happily has about 800 miles on it and still looks like new.

And this was a few weeks ago. Its all dirty here and needs a good bath but pretty sure the season is going to be coming to an end here real fast so we'll see what happens this winter. I want to pull the motor and paint the frame and fix a few things but I have another bike I am chopping out and I MUST finish my 3 wheeler I started last year.

I personally dont mind the way it rides at all. For a rigid its not bad what so ever. I dont know if the 15 inch rim with the taller sidewall on the tire makes a difference or not. I also run the tire a few pounds low and that helps smooth things out a lot. Im 40 years old now and riding rigids is my thing and it hasnt ruined my back yet. Knock on wood.

Glad you came up with a working solution on your carbs. I dunno if some smooth bores will fit - but they do make for a sweet power upgrade and are a breeze to tune in compared to what you got on now.

Looking good bro!
