I bought this bike a couple weeks ago and its currently down to nothing but a frame.

When I bought it you could tell it leaked oiled and I was told I should do a head gasket form the previous owner.

The PO gave me a new gasket set when I bought the bike so I figured it needed to happen. I started taking the bike apart with intentions of pulling the motor and either doing to head gasket myself with a couple friends or have a shop do it. I rode the bike for almost 200 miles in two days before I started taking it apart. I didn't see any oil leak out the entire time. Longer story short I decided to continue pulling everything off and take the motor out to go nuts and clean it. My plan is to remove some things along the way and put the bike back together. I also plan on doing new handle bars and new seat setup then run it. Now that it should be clean I should be able to see where the head gasket is leaking (if thats the problem).

While taking it apart I have done a lot of cleaning. I plan on upload pictures as I finish things. I have to say I don't have the best garage setup in the world or we may not always do things the right way. I'm learning a lot and its been a good time so far. I'm very excited to learn more and get this thing together.

To Be Continued....

-Nick

I'd look into some other things to do to the motor while you have it apart, like new rings and a hone, valve seals and such. Looks pretty stock, sad to see that you decided to cut the frame. But hey, it's your bike. Good luck.

Thanks for your input. I know some guys don't like to see the frame being cut. Personally I hate doing things like that but in this case to get the clean look I want it had to happen.

Looking good Nick, you going for a café style?

Thanks, that's the plan. I also have this build on another site and i'm getting all kinds of crap from these guys. Along with the BS i'm also learning a thing or two. I guess no one said learning was easy.

K2750tracy, I got a little too ahead of myself and cut my passenger peg mounts off as you can see in the pictures. I'm told if I was to ever get rear-sets those mounts are where I would mount them. That being said, looks like i'll have to make custom mounts for rear-sets. Any ideas?

laughing at you getting shit from others for cutting the frame. that happened a few nights ago locally to me for beginning to make a rolling stock chassis into a bar b que pit stand. soon as i find someone that can weld stainless,i have a old falstaff beer keg from the very early seventies or late sixties that is gonna be redone into a pit and mounted atop the seat area, being held in place with some curved flat bar. where the tank goes a piece of plate will be notched to sit level on the backbone for a small table and in the engine area underneath the backbone brace bars will be hangers for knives, tongs n stuff. i am going to keep the front end and rear wheel on the frame so it will easy to move around.

gonna be a nice ride you are doing,,the best ones are the ones you rework yourself.
