Doing some reading around the web about cleaning or rebuilding carbs and I have seen people stating that teardown and a good cleaning is all that is needed, while others claim that you should rebuild the carbs.

My bike runs well, but last summer I ran some Seafoam through a tank or two and since then my mileage has gone way down, about 5-8 MPG.

Should I drop the money on a rebuild kit or just give the internals a good cleaning?

All depends on what they look like when you get them apart. The only thing you replace in a rebuild are the orings and the needle and seat and maybe the float. Chances are the orings are hard and the needle and seat more than likely are worn and should be replaced. Wont know till you get em apart.
