I took apart some plug wires and coils I had on a spare bike, and was a little surprised how the wires are installed.


I just want to make sure I have it right.


Are the wires really just clipped and stripped back to the conductor, then held in place inside the stock coil pack with a collet/grommet and nylon/plastic tightening nut?

Some coils are like that. Here's a little trick from 5Twins on xs650.com to get a good connection. Strip the insulation back a little and fan the wire strands out in a radial pattern before screwing into the coil.

That's actually how the wires came out and it left me a little surprised.

I'll give that a shot on the next ones.
